Why Should We Invite?
Most of us already know we’re supposed to share our faith. The question is—why?
Why should we invite people to follow Jesus?
For me, the answer is simple, but not always easy to live out: Because people’s eternity depends on it.
That’s what Jesus said in John 14. He told His disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Eternity isn’t just an idea—it’s a destination. And Jesus made it clear: He’s the only way there.
The Honest Part
But let’s be honest . Sometimes we don’t feel that urgency.
Sometimes we don’t think about eternity when we see our friends, our neighbors, or even our family. We’re busy, we’re tired, we’re unsure how to start that kind of conversation. And sometimes, if we’re really honest, we just don’t feel like it matters enough to push past the awkwardness.
That’s not new. Thomas and Philip didn’t feel it either.
Thomas and Philip
When Jesus told the disciples He was going to prepare a place for them, Thomas spoke up first: “Lord, we don’t know where You’re going, so how can we know the way?”
He wasn’t being rebellious—he was confused. He wanted something he could see, something clear.
Then Philip chimed in: “Lord, show us the Father, and we’ll be satisfied.”
Philip wanted proof. He wanted a sign—something visible and certain.
Jesus responded, “Have I been with you all this time, and you still don’t know Me?”
Both men loved Jesus. They just weren’t up to speed on what God was doing or what He was asking of them yet. And that’s us, too, sometimes.
When You Don’t Feel It
Like Thomas and Philip, there are moments when we don’t understand what God is doing—or we’re not sure what He’s asking us to do.
When that happens, we don’t give up. We don’t pull back. We pray.
We ask God for help. We ask Him to open our eyes, to soften our hearts, and to help us care about what He cares about.
Ask in His Name
When Jesus said, “Ask anything in My name, and I will do it,” He wasn’t talking about wishes or comfort. He was promising power for His mission—strength for the things that bring glory to the Father.
And one of the most powerful things we can ever ask for is a heart that cares about the lost.
That kind of prayer lines up perfectly with His will—and He loves to answer it.
So Why Should We Invite?
Because people’s eternity depends on it. And if we don’t feel that way right now, that’s okay.
But don’t stay there. Pray. Ask God to give you His heart for people. Ask Him to help you see eternity the way He does.
Because when we do, everything changes—our courage, our priorities, and the way we love the world around us.
